Control

I realized a couple of days ago no matter how much I want to I can not control everything.  I don't really want to but I feel that sometimes I need to.  This is a failure of understanding on my part.  In all reality I don't control anything.  I may try to influence things to an outcome that I would like however this goes against what the Bible teaches us.  We are told that we should follow Gods plan and pray for his guidance.  Our main drive should be to build a relationship with God and not control things to meet our own wants and desires.

I try to control things because I feel that I know what should happen.  I am wrong again.  I feel that I have been failing a lot at the things I am suppose to do.  Then I realized we are designed to fail.  Ever since Adam and Eve we have been born into failure.

Genesis 2:-19
 8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?”
 10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
 11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
 12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
 13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
   The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
 14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
   “Cursed are you above all livestock
   and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
   and you will eat dust
   all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
   between you and the woman,
   and between your offspring[a] and hers;
he will crush[b] your head,
   and you will strike his heel.”
 16 To the woman he said,
   “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe;
   with painful labor you will give birth to children.
Your desire will be for your husband,
   and he will rule over you.”
 17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
   “Cursed is the ground because of you;
   through painful toil you will eat food from it
   all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
   and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
   you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
   since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
   and to dust you will return.”

Because of this original sin we are all born of Adam and Eve and therefore sinners in birth.

Romans 3:22-24 (New International Version)

22 This righteousness is given through faith in[a] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

In today's society failure is a bad thing.  What you want on this earth is to be a success.  We need to be at the top of the chain, Numero Uno, wrong again.  That is a person trying to control their own life.  Things of this earth do not matter so don't fall into the ways of this world.  It is God who matters and him we should be focused on.

Matthew 6:19-21 (New International Version)

Treasures in Heaven
    19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

I have heard it said that sin is a man or woman not living to their full potential.  There has only been one person who has lived to that potential and that was Jesus Christ who was man and God.  We will never be able to reach that but we can try.  Even Jesus was tempted:

Matthew 4

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness
 1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]
 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
   “‘He will command his angels concerning you,
   and they will lift you up in their hands,
   so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]
 7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]
 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
 10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]
 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Failure in today's culture is frowned upon, however if we accept it and stop trying to control it then maybe we can trust God in his plan for us and stop trying to control our own lives.

Ephesians 1:17-21
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come
Ephesians 3:14-19
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 6:10
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

Overall I learned that with all the knowledge I have I still fall into sin and even as simple as trying to control the outcome of a class I find that God has a different plan and for me to become frustrated is just me not giving it to God when it was already his.  If you find yourself having trouble letting go of things the best thing you can do is pray.

Also I would like to thank Rachel for her comment on last weeks blog it is great to see how things apply to others lives.
